How Deck Board Calculator derives its result.
Formula
Rows = ceiling((deck width × 12 + gap) ÷ (board face width + gap)). Total lineal footage = rows × run length, adjusted for waste.
Recommended workflow
- Measure the board-running direction and deck width.
- Use actual board face width, not nominal lumber size.
- Plan borders, stairs, butt joints, framing, and cut reuse separately.
Limitations
Follow decking specifications for gap and fastening. This is not a load or framing calculation.
